GARDENDALE, AL — In a decision that sparked whispers in both the church pews and the bleachers, local 11U head coach Brent Callahan skipped his 9-year-old daughter Savannah’s baptism at Gardendale First Baptist this Sunday to coach his son’s game.

“We all knew this was a possibility when we scheduled the baptism,” Callahan said, adjusting his Oakleys between innings. “I was hoping we’d get the later game and I could hustle over after the baptism, but we pulled the early slot. At that point, I had to stay with the team.”

“I truly hated to miss it,” Callahan added. “It’s a huge moment for our family. But we tell these boys—when you commit to something, you show up. Even when it’s hard. It’s about priorities you know.”

“I guess the most frustrating thing is,” Amanda lamented, “we changed her baptism date three times because of baseball.”

As of press time, the team lost 7–1. Savannah, glowing in her white robe, reportedly told her dad, “It’s okay. Jesus still saw me.”
